4:30 PM–5:30 PM Apr 8, 2019 (US - Central)

CC 2ND FL 207B

Session ID: 168

Expecting no prior knowledge, this session will build from ground up, explaining what is cryptography and encryption. It will then take a look under the hood at SSL/TLS and how it is used to achieve on-wire encryption. Role of SSL certs, wallets and root signing authority will also be explained, as also the components of a SSL cipher suite used for on-wire encryption. We will then go thru a typical run-book , explaining how to configure SSL and explain the finer points and gotcha's in a oracle database/client environment. By the end of this session, a neophyte to SSL/Cryptography should have firm understanding of not only the basics but some of the advanced elements.

Objective 1: How to create SSL certificates , wallets and configure database listeners/instance parameters to achieve on-wire encryption

Objective 2: Understand the basics and finer points of encryption with SSL. Be aware of choices and problem areas.

Audience: Mid-Level
